Canadian Chamber of Commerce sets economic recovery and growth strategy

Ottawa, October 19, 2010-Today, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce released a report calling for the government to take immediate action to address Canada’s immediate and longer-term economic and budgetary challenges.

In its report, entitled Fiscal Policy for a Stronger Tomorrow, the Canadian Chamber outlines its three-pronged strategy to tackle Canada’s short-term and longer-term budgetary challenges, and bolster the Canadian economy’s long-term growth potential.

Canada must address its aging workforce

Ottawa, October 14, 2010-In a special report released today, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce is calling for concerted action by governments, the wider business community and other stakeholders to address the problem of Canada’s aging workforce.

The Canadian Chamber of Commerce’s report, Canada’s Demographic Crunch: Can Underrepresented Workers Save Us?, examines the great challenge that a rapidly aging population and workforce will pose for Canada’s business competitiveness and economic well-being, and makes practical recommendations on how best to meet and overcome that challenge.

Private Sector Jobs Must be Priority: Canadian Chamber of Commerce

Ottawa, October 8, 2010- Today’s Statistics Canada report that Canada’s labour market shed 6,600 jobs in September demonstrates that the Ottawa’s highest priority must be to encourage private sector job creation, says the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.

“While we still see the recovery taking hold, the loss of jobs indicates that the economy is fragile. We need to do everything we can to see it continue,” says Perrin Beatty, President and CEO of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.

Today’s employment report follows other reports showing that the Canadian economic recovery is losing momentum in the second half of the year. Uncertainty about the strength of the recovery will likely restrain job gains for the remainder of 2010 and into 2011.

John A. Manzoni receives Canadian International Executive of the Year Award from Canadian Chamber

Ottawa, August 23, 2010: Mr. John A. Manzoni, president and chief executive officer, Talisman Energy Inc., will be this year’s recipient of the Canadian International Executive of the Year Award presented by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Canada’s largest business association, on November 25 in Calgary.

“Energy is one of Canada’s greatest assets, and our Canadian energy companies are important ambassadors,” said Perrin Beatty, President and CEO of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. “Under the leadership of John Manzoni, Talisman is certainly a foremost ambassador not only for the energy sector, but for Canadian business.”

Canadian businesses must go global: Canadian Chamber

Ottawa, August 10, 2010: Today, Canada’s largest business association released a report calling for businesses to act quickly to grab a share of the global market before we get left behind.

According to the report, entitled Canadian Businesses Go Global For Growth, projections suggest the global economic balance of power will continue to transition toward developing countries, and their share of global trade will increase further. These trends present new challenges and opportunities.
