We welcome Christiane Bergevin to her new role as chair of the board of directors. The announcement was made today at our annual general meeting in Fredericton.
“I’m thrilled to have Christiane take the helm as chair of our board of directors. Christiane brings an extensive background and expertise in infrastructure, finance, business development and governance and has been active in Canada and across the world. She will be a remarkable asset to our board and to the Chamber’s work on behalf of Canadian businesses,” said the Hon. Perrin Beatty, CEO and President of the Chamber.
Ms. Bergevin is director of Yamana Gold, a Canadian-based precious metals producer active in Canada and South America, whom she represents on the Chamber Board. She currently sits on many boards, including RATP Dev and AGF Group, and has held previous director roles with Business Development Bank of Canada and the Caisse de Dépôt and Placement du Québec, among others. Recognized among the Top 100 most powerful women by the Women’s Executive Network, Ms. Bergevin has previously served as President of SNC-Lavalin Capital and was an executive vice-president with Desjardins Group. She currently advises leading corporations across Canada.
In addition to her support to various organizations such as Association des Femmes en Finances du Québec and the International Women`s Forum, Ms. Bergevin is actively engaged in several community causes, notably the Foundation of the Montreal Heart Institute and the McGill Principal's International Advisory Board.
“It is exciting to take on this new role as chair at the Chamber, where our committed team and Board representatives – including Provincial Chambers – are closely aligning efforts together to help propel Canadian businesses and the economy. I look forward to leading our board through what will be an interesting year ahead,” Ms. Bergevin said.
Ms. Bergevin, previously vice-chair, will take over for outgoing Chamber chair Duncan Wilson.
“I would like to thank and congratulate Duncan for the expertise and dedication he brought during his time as chair. Our board and our network as a whole is stronger for his service and leadership. I look forward to continuing to work with him on important issues facing businesses and communities in Canada,” Mr. Beatty said.
The Canadian Chamber's AGM and Convention is the chamber network’s must-attend event of the year, where member chambers of commerce get plugged into the latest developments, trends and issues that are important to the Canadian business community and develop solutions to break down the barriers that are holding businesses back, setting the Canadian Chamber's policy agenda for the upcoming year.
