Paris, July 24, 2014 – The B20 Coalition is proud to announce that the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), UK's premier business lobbying organisation, has joined its unique, broad-based business network.
Formed in 2012, the B20 Coalition operates as a worldwide platform of exchanges between national business communities in G20 countries, aiming at building consensus and developing common positions on critical issues for enterprises.
With the addition of CBI, the B20 Coalition, already the largest business federation forum for G20 nations, now represents 6.7 million businesses of all sizes and from all sectors across the globe.
B20 Coalition President Perrin Beatty said, “We are delighted to welcome the CBI into the fold at a time when improved economic growth presents a host of opportunities and challenges. Inclusion of this substantial and highly respected association will enhance our legitimacy and effectiveness in engaging policy-makers at a global scale”.
“The addition of CBI will make us an even more potent force in the creation of a business-enabling environment”, he added.
Deputy Director General of CBI Katja Hall said, “UK business has been a longstanding global player and a strong believer in free and open markets. Joining the B20 Coalition further underlines the importance the CBI attaches to working with others to boost global trade and investment, which will ultimately lead to greater growth, jobs and prosperity for all”.
CBI joins the B20 Coalition at a period of high activity for the group. A key report on Trade and Investment, released in early July ahead of the G20 Trade Ministers’ meeting, will be followed by additional recommendations on Energy, Infrastructure & Investment, and the Digital Economy to be delivered to G20 Leaders before their mid-November meeting in Brisbane.
Further, as the Turkish G20 Presidency gets under way, the B20 Coalition will hold its second Plenary meeting in Istanbul in January 2015.
